Josiah Hester Receives Daniel I. Linzer Award
The Office of the Provost awarded its Daniel I. Linzer Award for Faculty Excellence in Diversity and Equity to Josiah Hester, noting his “tireless work to build a more diverse, inclusive and equitable climate…especially in a field in which women and people of color are underrepresented.” Hester is one of the creators of Code-N-Color, a support group for BIPOC PhD students in computing and coding related disciplines in which he maintains significant involvement. The award also notes Hester’s work programming events and speakers fostering conversation on diversity and equity in coding, as well as his own research addressing the challenges faced by Ojibwe Nation and Native Hawaiian communities.
