Sustainable Manufacturing, Processes, and Materials Systems
Engineers design and supervise the manufacturing and chemical processes that provide society with materials, fuels, medicines, and many other products. To enhance sustainability of the industrial sector and its products, engineering designs and methods must yield high-performing products, achieve energy and water efficiency, incorporate affordable and clean energy, inherently integrate recyclability and reuse. They must also incorporate computational-based approaches to design, sensors, and data-driven systems for informing and tracking the path to sustainability. A good work environment and economic growth are also critical elements of sustainable industry.
